Majda Abdulshakour

Biography

Majda Abdulshakour’s practice unfolds like a garden in perpetual bloom. With sweeping, textured brushstrokes and radiant colors, she transforms the canvas into a field of joy and emotional resonance where flowers are not mere
subjects but living symbols of renewal, resilience, and identity.

She trained numerous times at the atelier of the French painter Claire Basler, whose poetic vision of nature deeply shaped her sensibility. Strongly inspired by Monet’s atmospheric light and profoundly moved by Joan Mitchell’s expressive
freedom, Majda carries forward both the lyrical and the instinctive, the observation of nature and the intensity of emotion. Her painting bridges
these worlds, capturing the vibration of color as an act of joy rather than nostalgia.

Much of her recent work was created in her atelier overlooking Lake Lucerne,
where the serenity of the Swiss landscape became a counterpoint to her vibrant
Hijazi memories. Surrounded by alpine stillness, she painted blossoms that
embody vitality, memory, and transformation.

Born in Jeddah and raised between Saudi Arabia and Lebanon, Majda grew up in a family that revered art and culture. She began her artistic journey at the atelier of Safeya Binzagr, one of Saudi Arabia’s most celebrated painters and a pioneer of women’s art education in the Kingdom. Under Binzagr’s mentorship, Majda learned both the technical and emotional foundations of painting and participated in her first exhibitions within the atelier’s circle. At a time when Jeddah’s art scene was still emerging, these intimate in situ showcases and collaborative studio projects became formative experiences, nurturing her sense of artistic community and
exchange.
